Working for Mr. Wu at General Bank for twenty years directly and indirectly, I have no doubt about his integrity and respect his characters. He has so many other great characters, the following is just a few to demonstrate against what was reported:
1. Nothing illegal - Mr. Wu's ingenuity and entrepreneurial foresight are unparalleled in the banking industry. He could always find a way to make a business deal work for both sides. However, Mr. Wu had always insisted on never doing anything that might hint at impropriety in the eye of the law. Mr. Wu made sure that our bank's procedures and business practices are in total compliance with laws and regulations.
2. Honest and Forthcoming - As the chief executive of a publicly traded bank, Mr. Wu's compensation is meant to be significantly enhanced by the bank's profits and stock performance. Mr. Wu, who valued integrity above all other qualities, never tried to manipulate the bank's earnings report but always insisted on disclosing any potential loss at the earliest onset.
3. Fair - Mr. Wu believed that the best way to motivate employees is by applying reward and punishment in a fair and equitable manner. He expected every manager to do the same, no exceptions. Mr. Wu also had an "open door" philosophy where employees from any rank could go to him if they have suggestions or grievance. He would then listen to all sides of the story (instead of just a few) before making a decision.
4. Rational and Reasonable - I have never seen Mr. Wu let emotions or personal allegiances cloud his decision. I have "hated" him many times for his decisions, but I respected him for the decisions he made, for they are always made in the best interest of the bank.

Sheree is right. Mr. Wu is a great leader and a great mentor to us. His strict disciplines have earned employees and local communities' respect. Mr. Wu makes himself as a role model to all employees. In about 10 years working for him, I believe Mr. Wu's innocent and feel sad that his tens years of efforts on promoting Taiwan's democracy are misinterpreted.
